You!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Group work can be worrying because we can\u2019t know for sure that we\u2019ll get the assignment marks we want. We have to depend on other group members, and that can be tough when our brains are wired weirdly when it comes to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nyu.edu\/about\/news-publications\/news\/2018\/january\/why-do-we-trust--or-not-trust--strangers--the-answer-is-pavlovia.html\">trusting strangers<\/a>.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But, working with others is a key part of the rest of our lives, so let\u2019s delve down deeper and discover some new and useful knowledge \u2013 together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why you should meet up more often<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/thedecisionlab.com\/biases\/mere-exposure-effect\">The Mere Exposure Effect<\/a> shows that we tend to like the things we\u2019re more familiar with. It\u2019s why companies do <a href=\"https:\/\/instapage.com\/blog\/brand-advertising-examples\">brand advertising<\/a>, and it\u2019s why you should strive to meet regularly with your group. You can easily book a space in the <a href=\"https:\/\/bookings.library.curtin.edu.au\/%20\">Library<\/a> if you\u2019d like to meet them on-campus, or you can set up <a href=\"https:\/\/curtin.webex.com\/\">WebEx<\/a> and organise meetings online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why you should understand team formation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.freshbooks.com\/hub\/other\/tuckmans-theory\">Tuckman\u2019s Theory of Team Development<\/a> suggests that teams go through different stages of development. When you start your next group assignment, you will almost always face some conflicts before finding your feet and working at your best. Knowing this theory (?) can help you because if (or when) you\u2019re having a hard time, remember to trust the process and don\u2019t give up on your team. Take action, and respectfully express your concerns!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Why you are the most important part of working in a team<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019re working on a group assignment<em>,<\/em> other people are working with you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So <a href=\"https:\/\/www.belbin.com\/about\/belbin-team-roles\">what kind of group member<\/a> are you?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Are you the creative but forgetful Plant?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The driven and ambitious Shaper, prone to stressing others out?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Completer-Finisher \u2013 a perfectionist who worries too much about other people\u2019s work?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>No, these aren\u2019t star-signs for uni students \u2013 chances are, we\u2019ve met these people before. In fact, one of them could be you! Of course, not everyone fits perfectly into these made-up labels (in fact, you can be more than one of these!). However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.belbin.com\/about\/belbin-team-roles\">Belbin Team Roles<\/a> can help guide us while we identify our strengths and weaknesses.
