Whether you’re brand new to Curtin or just finding your feet, here are five things you can do now to start the semester feeling prepared, confident and ready to go.

1. Level up your organisation

1. Level up your organisation
A new semester is the perfect time to get your study systems sorted. Platforms like Notion can help you keep your notes, assessments, research and weekly schedule all in one place. You can also try tools like Evernote, Taskade, Microsoft OneNote, Google Calendar or Goodnotes. Have a play around and find what works best for the way you study. Finally make sure to access your personalised Orientation Timetable before O-Week commences.

2. Make the most of Orientation
The O-Week entertainment schedule is packed with activities designed to help you settle in, meet people and get familiar with uni life. Whether it’s yoga, making a friendship bracelet or an info session, it’s worth signing up for as much as you can. It’s also a great chance to explore student clubs and communities. Head to the Guild website to see what clubs are on campus, what they offer and how to get involved – and don’t forget to stop by on O-Day to sign up.

3. Get to know the campus
One of the best ways to feel more confident before classes start is by getting familiar with campus. Take a guided or self-guided tour, find out where your classes are, and scope out the best places to study, grab lunch or take a break between lectures. A little exploring now can make your first few weeks feel much easier.

4. Connect with a mentor
Starting uni is a lot easier when you can learn from someone who’s already been there. Connecting with a mentor during O-Week is a great way to get insider tips, ask questions and learn more about life at Curtin from a current student. Find out more about how you can connect with a mentor here.

5. Set up your student discounts
Make the most of your student perks from day one. If you’re catching public transport, make sure your SmartRider card is set up with Transperth so you can access concession fares. And the savings don’t stop there – download UNiDays to unlock discounts on hundreds of brands, both in-store and online.

Starting uni can be a big adjustment, but you don’t have to figure it all out at once. Take it one step at a time, get involved, and make the most of everything available to you at Curtin.

Starting university can be overwhelming but don’t stress!
