We are looking forward to welcoming you to the first semester of 2022. The campus is looking wonderful, and staff have been working hard to ensure O-Week is full of informative and fun activities to start you off on your university career.<\/span><\/p>\n

We know the last two years have been very challenging for many people, and this year will potentially be equally so, but at Curtin, we work together as a community to make sure everyone can make the most of their opportunities on campus.<\/span><\/p>\n

Please read this note, as it contains important information for you.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Curtin University has decided to implement a COVID-19 vaccination mandate for its staff, students, visitors and contractors on all Western Australian campuses and venues.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

While we know this is potentially controversial, this decision is part of our strategy to counter the impact of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of the University community. The decision was made following a period of engagement with the Curtin Student Guild and our staff. Feedback from the Guild, who represent all students on campus, and our staff, was strongly in support of requiring vaccination as a crucial way of protecting the health, safety and wellbeing of our community.<\/span><\/p>\n

The mandate is contained in the\u00a0COVID-19 Vaccination Policy\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0COVID-19 Vaccination Procedures<\/em>, both available on Curtin\u2019s\u00a0Find a Policy<\/a>\u00a0webpage<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Western Australia, students who wish to attend a campus or facility, or to participate in a University activity involving physical interaction with others must provide Curtin with evidence they have received at least one dose of an approved COVID-19 vaccine by 21\u00a0February and a second by 21 March 2022.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After 21 March 2022, students will also need to provide evidence they have received a third or booster within one month of becoming eligible.<\/span><\/p>\n

Curtin staff, contractors, tenants and visitors are also subject to this policy.<\/span><\/p>\n

Exemptions will apply, including for those with a medical exemption recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register or who have another exemption approved by the State Government. The Provost and Chief Operating Officer may also grant an exemption to an individual or activity in exceptional circumstances and if certain other requirements are met.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the coming week all students will receive advice on how to provide evidence of vaccination.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thank you to all those who have already been vaccinated. I encourage anyone who has not done so to be vaccinated by the relevant deadlines.<\/span><\/p>\n
