Curtin University\u2019s new Chancellor Mr David Lock has spoken of the power of education as the first in his family to attend university at his official Investiture Ceremony.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A highly regarded company director with a career spanning Australia\u2019s agribusiness, infrastructure and education sectors, Mr Lock succeeded Dr Vanessa Guthrie in April before being officially invested by His Excellency Mr Chris Dawson, the Governor of Western Australia, yesterday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the ceremony held on Curtin\u2019s Bentley Campus, Mr Lock said it was \u201can immense privilege\u201d to serve as Curtin\u2019s Chancellor after working closely with the University over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTruthfully, it is not a role I ever expected to hold. As the first person in my family to attend university, I could never have imagined one day I would stand before you as Chancellor of one of Australia\u2019s leading universities,\u201d Mr Lock told the crowd.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTo be entrusted with this role is an honour and I accept it with genuine humility and great enthusiasm for the work ahead. Over the past decade, through my involvement with Curtin, I have had the privilege of seeing first-hand the difference this University makes in the lives of students and the communities it serves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhat impresses me the most is the practical, outward-looking mindset that has helped make Curtin one of Australia\u2019s most respected universities and a significant contributor to the prosperity and resilience of Western Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne said Curtin would benefit from Mr Lock\u2019s exceptional governance, strategic and organisational leadership.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cA visionary leader, David has a long-standing relationship with Curtin including in his role as Chair of the University\u2019s Faculty of Business and Law Advisory Council since 2021,\u201d Professor Hayne said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAt a critical moment for higher education, David brings the steady hand, strategic insight and deep commitment to Curtin\u2019s mission needed to help steer the University into its next era of growth, innovation and impact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ceremony was attended by more than 100 guests including His Excellency Chris Dawson AC APM, Governor of Western Australia, Tertiary and International Education Minister the Honourable Dr Tony Buti, senior industry figures, and representatives from the other WA universities and local government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
