researchers among finalists in the Premier\u2019s Science Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Four Curtin leaders in their fields have been named finalists in the prestigious Premier\u2019s Science Awards, which celebrate WA\u2019s best and brightest contributions to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtin Professor Stephen van Leeuwen, Australia\u2019s first Indigenous Chair for Biodiversity and Environmental Science, is a finalist in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Scientist of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Cathryn Trott, from the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy and CSIRO, was named a finalist in the Mid-Career Scientist of the Year category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Xiaomin Xu, a Senior Lecturer at Curtin\u2019s Western Australian School of Mines: Minerals, Energy and Chemical Engineering, is in the running to be named Early Career Scientist of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dr Rina Wong (Fu), from Curtin\u2019s Faculty of Health Sciences, was also recognised as a finalist in the STEM Educator of the Year (Tertiary) category.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Professor Lindy Fitzgerald congratulated the Curtin finalists acknowledged among the State\u2019s best and brightest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Premier\u2019s Science Awards recognise and celebrate the very best of outstanding scientific research and engagement taking place in WA,\u201d Professor Fitzgerald said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCurtin is proudly home to multiple leaders in their fields, so I\u2019m thrilled these finalists have been named among the State\u2019s finest contributors to science, technology, engineering and mathematics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Premier&#8217;s Science Awards recognise WA scientists, researchers, STEM tertiary students, STEM teachers and educators, and STEM engagement providers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, awards alumni have become important ambassadors for the State, helping to inspire future generations to take up courses and careers in STEM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners will be announced at a special gala ceremony held later this
