Curtin University is proud to celebrate the success of Aboriginal women leaders, marking the graduation of its fourth staff member from the Yorga Djenna Bidi program<\/a> through the Western Australian Aboriginal Leadership Institute (WAALI).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jayde Conway, Curtin University’s Indigenous Cultural Capability Lead, is among ten inspirational women who recently completed the program designed for Aboriginal women who aspire to influence, lead and drive change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Developed by Aboriginal people for Aboriginal people, WAALI\u2019s Yorga Djenna Bidi combines traditional teachings passed down by Elders with contemporary leadership practices, equipping participants with the skills and knowledge necessary for leadership success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Conway said the program had been a life-changing journey, deepening her understanding of leadership from an Aboriginal perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt has allowed me to embrace my cultural identity while honing my leadership skills, providing invaluable tools to drive change within my community and workplace,\u201d Ms Conway said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn my role at Curtin, I strive to foster a greater appreciation and understanding of Aboriginal culture. Completing the Yorga Djenna Bidi program has strengthened my commitment to creating an inclusive environment where Aboriginal perspectives are valued and integrated into our educational practices.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curtin\u2019s Dean Indigenous Futures and 2019 graduate of the Yorga Djenna Bidi program, Associate Professor Mandy Downing, said the experience had been transformative for her own career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis program has been pivotal to my professional development, building my confidence and expanding my networks within the community,\u201d Associate Professor Downing said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt taught me that making an impact doesn\u2019t require being the loudest voice in the room. The learning experience assisted me to gain a senior leadership position at Curtin University where I have been able to advocate for investment in leadership development for other Aboriginal women.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curtin is committed to the professional growth of Indigenous employees and will sponsor three additional staff members to participate in WAALI\u2019s Yorga Djenna Bidi and Emerging Leaders programs in the coming months.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
