Curtin University has appointed John Curtin Distinguished Professor Melinda Fitzgerald<\/a> as its Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research (DVCR) for the next five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Fitzgerald has been in the role on an interim basis since June 2023, following the departure of Professor Chris Moran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An international leader in neurotrauma research, Professor Fitzgerald is also chief executive officer of Connectivity Traumatic Brain Injury Australia<\/a> and leads the world-first, nationwide Australian Mild Traumatic Brain Injury Study.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne<\/a> said Professor Fitzgerald was the ideal candidate to oversee Curtin\u2019s wide-ranging research activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cProfessor Fitzgerald has an impeccable background in research leadership,\u201d Professor Hayne said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve already seen a positive impact on Curtin\u2019s research community in Professor Fitzgerald\u2019s time as interim DVCR, so we\u2019re excited to see her continue in the position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe can\u2019t wait to see the new heights Curtin\u2019s research will reach under Professor Fitzgerald\u2019s stewardship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Fitzgerald has held several leadership positions since joining Curtin in 2013, including Curtin Health Innovation Research Institute<\/a> Deputy Director, Faculty of Health Sciences<\/a> Dean of Research and Associate DVCR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Professor Fitzgerald said she was excited about what Curtin could achieve through its research over the next five years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cCurtin leads research that Australia and our global partners need now and into the future, so I am delighted to be appointed as DVCR at Curtin University,\u201d Professor Fitzgerald said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
