{"id":25009,"date":"2024-05-23T09:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-23T01:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/?post_type=media-release&#038;p=25009"},"modified":"2025-01-24T09:01:13","modified_gmt":"2025-01-24T01:01:13","slug":"2024-curtin-ignition-offers-aspiring-business-owners-expert-start-up-advice","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/2024-curtin-ignition-offers-aspiring-business-owners-expert-start-up-advice\/","title":{"rendered":"2024 Curtin Ignition offers aspiring business owners expert start-up advice"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Budding WA entrepreneurs are being encouraged to apply for the 2024 Curtin Ignition program and join the growing number of innovators who\u2019ve turned their ideas into booming businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The intensive one-week program provides early stage founders with the essential tools, industry connections and confidence to develop an entrepreneurial mindset and build a solid business foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtin University Faculty of Business and Law Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Vanessa Chang said the program has gone from strength to strength over its 14 year history, helping scale-up hundreds of start-ups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom developing ideas to pitching to investors, Curtin Ignition gives emerging founders the opportunity to learn from the experts about how to achieve success in their business journey,\u201d Professor Chang said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe program has a proven track record of fostering big and bright ideas, upskilling more than 700 entrepreneurs, through practical teaching sessions and expert clinics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtin Ignition\u2019s success stories include a wide range of companies, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rhinohide.com.au\/\">Rhinohide<\/a> \u2013 a removable paintwork protection system for four-wheel drive vehicles and <a href=\"https:\/\/cvcheck.com\/\">CV Check<\/a> \u2013 an employment screening platform.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Running from September 1 to 6, the program will feature Silicon Valley technology investor and start-up expert Marvin Liao who will share valuable insights with attendees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe journey of a founder is hard and requires courage and self-belief. It\u2019s critical to be in the right rooms with people who you can ask for advice and learn from,\u201d Mr Liao said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe best founders regularly ask for help and the Ignition program is a masterclass in helping start-ups navigate a challenging business landscape.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>RapidGraphite CEO and Curtin researcher Dr Jason Fogg received a Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer Ignition scholarship in 2023 and went on to participate in Curtin\u2019s 2024 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/engage\/entrepreneurs\/accelerate\/\">Accelerate<\/a> program \u2013 a ten week course helping fast track businesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAt RapidGraphite we make battery-quality synthetic graphite from common carbon materials, our technology plays a pivotal role in securing Australia\u2019s green energy future.
