{"id":21911,"date":"2023-07-05T09:49:57","date_gmt":"2023-07-05T01:49:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/?post_type=media-release&#038;p=21911"},"modified":"2023-07-05T09:53:40","modified_gmt":"2023-07-05T01:53:40","slug":"eight-curtin-health-and-medical-research-projects-awarded-funding","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/eight-curtin-health-and-medical-research-projects-awarded-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Eight Curtin health and medical research projects awarded funding"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A new therapy to stop the progression of multiple sclerosis and an acoustic analysis tool for diagnosing speech disorders are among eight Curtin research projects identified as having significant potential and awarded WA Near-miss Awards Ideas Grants of $100,000 each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grants are awarded to early and mid-career researchers who have applied for National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) funding, in order for them to further develop their projects for possible additional funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Announced yesterday by the Minister for Medical Research, the Curtin-led projects also include research into a treatment for the symptoms of mild traumatic brain injury and a study into the role of general practitioners in influencing the use of medications by the elderly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The eight Curtin-led projects are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2022 Understanding the role of bone marrow fat cells in children with high-risk leukaemia &#8211;
