{"id":19837,"date":"2022-02-02T01:58:47","date_gmt":"2022-02-01T17:58:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-research-to-focus-on-pancreatic-cancer-bubbles-in-blood\/"},"modified":"2023-01-05T12:28:57","modified_gmt":"2023-01-05T04:28:57","slug":"curtin-research-to-focus-on-pancreatic-cancer-bubbles-in-blood","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-research-to-focus-on-pancreatic-cancer-bubbles-in-blood\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin research to focus on pancreatic cancer \u2018bubbles\u2019 in blood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University researchers will investigate the make-up of cancer-carrying \u2018bubbles\u2019 with the ultimate aim of detecting pancreatic cancer in its early stages, thanks to funding from PanKind, The Australian Pancreatic Cancer Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>Led by Professor Marco Falasca from the Curtin Medical School, the research would focus on so-called \u201cbubbles\u201d located in pancreatic cancer cells that can be discovered in blood and other body fluids.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Falasca said the research ultimately aimed to help detect pancreatic cancer \u2013 one of the deadliest and most aggressive forms of cancer &#8211; in its early stages, allowing for early intervention and the development of effective drug therapies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese bubbles, which are called exosomes, are used by cancer cells to communicate and help spread the cancer,\u201d Professor Falasca said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese exosomes from tumour cells play a crucial role in the growth and development of pancreatic cancer.
