Data science specialist Alex Jenkins has been appointed as the Director of the WA Data Science Innovation Hub (WADSIH), based at Curtin University.<\/p>\n
Mr Jenkins has more than 15 years\u2019 experience working in the technology space implementing and advocating for data science and analytics solutions.<\/p>\n
In his previous role, Mr Jenkins used his expertise to build data science capabilities for mining technology businesses. This experience will ensure that the Hub continues to drive innovation and deliver a high level of data science counsel to the WA Community.<\/p>\n
Mr Jenkins has also worked with leading organisations including ABB, BHP, St John of God Healthcare and Imdex to define big data, supply chain modelling and data science solutions.<\/p>\n
Curtin University Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Development, Professor Chris Moran welcomed Mr Jenkins to the new position and said he was excited to see him build on the foundational work of inaugural WADSIH Director Dr Liz Dallimore, who has recently been appointed the CEO of Argenica Therapeutics.<\/p>\n
\u201cMr Jenkins\u2019 broad experience in using data science to support industries will be an important skillset in helping drive data science uptake and the creation of new data science businesses in Western Australia,\u201d Professor Moran said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe has extensive experience leading the development of strategy and roadmaps to drive digital transformation in the data science, analytics and Business Intelligence space, and is keen to apply this expertise to his new position.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Jenkins said he was looking forward to taking on the new role and encouraging the uptake of data science in order to lead business transformation in WA.<\/p>\n
\u201cI see\u00a0incredible potential for collaborations between the education sector, government, and industry to develop the next generation of data scientists and boost jobs and growth in this exciting and dynamic space,\u201d Mr Jenkins said.<\/p>\n
Minister for ICT and Innovation, Hon Don Punch MLA, expressed great enthusiasm over Mr Jenkins\u2019 appointment and the extensive experience he will bring to the McGowan Government funded WADSIH.<\/p>\n
