{"id":19430,"date":"2019-12-03T06:29:40","date_gmt":"2019-12-02T22:29:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-developed-hyprfire-cyber-shield-wins-commercialisation-grant\/"},"modified":"2019-12-03T06:29:40","modified_gmt":"2019-12-02T22:29:40","slug":"curtin-developed-hyprfire-cyber-shield-wins-commercialisation-grant","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-developed-hyprfire-cyber-shield-wins-commercialisation-grant\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin-developed Hyprfire cyber shield wins commercialisation grant"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An innovative cyber security solution developed by Curtin University researchers is a step closer to hitting the market after securing a Federal Government Accelerating Commercialisation Grant of $170,000.<\/p>\n<p>The defensive software \u2013 <em>HyprFire <\/em>\u2013 works to prevent cyber-attacks, similar to the 2016 attack on the Australian Census website, by using powerful statistical techniques to identify and filter out malicious traffic while keeping the online service running.<\/p>\n<p>The funding will be used to take <em>Hyprfire<\/em> to the next level by further developing the software and testing it in a live environment so that it is ready for commercial sales.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Professor Chris Moran congratulated the grant winners for their commitment to solving real-world problems with innovation and quality research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Hyprfire team has applied their expertise to address the real and ever-growing threat of cyber security attacks, which can cause significant economic and reputational damage to organisations,\u201d Professor Moran said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe grant funding will be used to develop the software so it is suitable for commercial trial with industry partners, conducting trials with those partners before making it ready for commercial sales.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis collaborative work is an outstanding example of how Curtin University research projects are developing innovative products that have the potential to make tangible improvements for businesses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Hyprfire<\/em> combines the expertise of Curtin University academics and commercial experts including PhD lead developer Mr Stefan Prandl and Associate Professor Mihai Lazarescu from the School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Science;
