{"id":19184,"date":"2019-02-25T00:32:59","date_gmt":"2019-02-24T16:32:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-receives-gender-equality-honours-for-the-fifth-year-in-a-row\/"},"modified":"2019-02-25T00:32:59","modified_gmt":"2019-02-24T16:32:59","slug":"curtin-receives-gender-equality-honours-for-the-fifth-year-in-a-row","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-receives-gender-equality-honours-for-the-fifth-year-in-a-row\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin receives gender equality honours for the fifth year in a row"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University has been named an Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) for the fifth year in a row, recognising the University\u2019s commitment to diversity and promoting equity and inclusion.<\/p>\n<p>The Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) today released its 2018-19 EOCGE citation holders, which acknowledge employer commitment and best practice in promoting gender equality in Australian workplaces.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the University was committed to achieving gender equality and it was an honour to receive the EOCGE citation for the fifth year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin has recently endorsed an overarching <a href=\"http:\/\/eesj.curtin.edu.au\/policies_plans\/plans.cfm\">Diversity and Equity Strategy<\/a> that consolidates all reconciliation, diversity and equity initiatives across the University,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Strategy will ensure that an equity and diversity lens is applied to all activities being undertaken at Curtin and demonstrates a university-wide commitment to best practice.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a WGEA Pay Equity Ambassador, I will be continuing to ensure that we improve our gender equity performance, including gender pay equity, in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WGEA Director Libby Lyons said embracing workplace gender equality meant different things for different organisations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery employer committed to gender equality embarks upon their own unique journey towards achieving the equal participation by women and men in their workplace. The WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality citation provides a rigorous and sophisticated roadmap to guide employers along the path,\u201d Ms Lyons said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have awarded a record 140 EOCGE citations this year. All of our 2018-19 EOCGE citation holders are at different stages of their gender equality journey. What unites them is their determination and commitment to achieving workplace gender equality. I congratulate all of these organisations for being agents of change, leading the way forward for other Australian employers to follow.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Curtin\u2019s commitment has also been recently recognised with bronze accreditation at the SAGE <a href=\"https:\/\/about.curtin.edu.au\/what\/empowering-our-people\/athena-swan\/\">Athena SWAN<\/a> Awards, to recognise its efforts to advance the careers of women in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM).<\/p>\n<p>Curtin has also established the Julia Gillard Women in Leadership Scholarship, for academically gifted female students who display leadership and community service qualities and have the desire to develop themselves as a leader in their chosen field.
