Curtin University is giving Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander students the opportunity to start their business career with a new Indigenous Pre-Business Enabling Course, starting next year.<\/p>\n
Run through Curtin\u2019s Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS) in collaboration with the Faculty of Business and Law, the one-year course will welcome the first cohort of students in Semester One, 2019.<\/p>\n
CAS Director Professor Marion Kickett said applications for the new enabling program are now open for Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander students.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Indigenous Pre-Business Enabling Course is designed to provide an alternative pathway for Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander students into undergraduate courses within Curtin Business School,\u201d Professor Kickett said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis new course will offer students the confidence and abilities needed to negotiate critical business environments that affect everyone\u2019s lives, as well as providing key academic skills to help them pursue higher education.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe course is unique as it has been developed and supported by both Indigenous and non-Indigenous academics, who are committed to and passionate about providing opportunities for Indigenous students to advance their future careers in business.\u201d<\/p>\n
Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Jill Downie said the enabling course was an essential part of Curtin\u2019s strategy to provide alternative pathways to higher education for Indigenous Australians.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurtin is striving toward reconciliation in the wider community and education is a powerful tool in providing support for young Indigenous Australians to become the business leaders of tomorrow,\u201d Professor Downie said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurtin offers a range of alternative pathways that are tailored to suit the specific needs of different types of students and this new enabling course is an important part of the University\u2019s plan to make further education a possibility for more students.\u201d<\/p>\n
Workshops outlining more information about the new course will be available both online and in person at Curtin\u2019s Centre for Aboriginal Studies, on November 13 and 15, 2018 and January 16 and 21, 2019.<\/p>\n
The Indigenous Pre-Business Enabling Course is available to people of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander descent and offers alternative pathways into Curtin Business School.<\/p>\n
