Curtin University\u2019s fourth international campus was opened by the Prime Minister of Mauritius, The Hon Pravind Kumar Jugnauth late yesterday.<\/p>\n
The move to establish an official campus in Mauritius, builds on Curtin\u2019s very successful fourteen-year partnership with the highly regarded Charles Telfair Institute (CTI), which has delivered Curtin degree programs to more than 2,300 students in Mauritius.<\/p>\n
Curtin Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry said she was delighted that the Charles Telfair Institute, located at Moka, south-east of the capital Port Louis, had become an official campus of Curtin University.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very pleased to be located in a country with ambitions to become an education hub for the African and Indian Ocean region, a vision that aligns with our strategic ambitions to extend our global footprint in these areas,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n
\u201cCurtin has had a long and very successful partnership with CTI, a tertiary education provider that has considerable experience in delivering education programs and an excellent reputation in the region.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur aim is to continue to increase student enrolments from Mauritius, Africa and the broader region and to build research capability and collaborations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Executive Director of the Charles Telfair Institute Mr Jeremy Charoux welcomed the move and commented that the Institute had nearly doubled international student numbers since 2014.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur institute has gained an excellent reputation not only in Mauritius but increasingly in the broader region. To achieve our long-term ambition of becoming a significant regional player, we believe this will be accelerated by even further integrating our brand and resources with Curtin \u2013 a leading global university,\u201d Mr Charoux said.<\/p>\n
The Australian High Commissioner to Mauritius Ms Jenny Dee welcomed the announcement to open the Curtin Mauritius campus, recognising the long-standing partnership between Curtin University and the Charles Telfair Institute.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a milestone in Australia\u2019s relations with Mauritius and demonstrates the commitment of Australian education institutions to support the development of Mauritius as a regional education hub,\u201d Ms Dee said.<\/p>\n
