Dr Anne Farren, Head of Fashion Design at Curtin said the end of year showcase was a terrific experience for students hoping to break into the often tough fashion industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a huge amount of work and time put into this event. The students not only had to come up with some spectacular designs but they also had to organise and run the whole event, right down to the staging, music, venue set-up and promotion,\u201d Dr Farren said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis year we saw an incredible variety in the designs from denim-inspired collections, to gender-neutral influences, to fashion designed with minimalism in mind.\u201d<\/p>\n
A number of students received awards for their outstanding work with the coveted Fashion Course Academic Award collected by Armadale student Ancille Kashaba for her HYBRID collection \u2013 a tribute to gender-bending millennials.<\/p>\n
Kensington student Beth Moseley was awarded a one month internship with successful West Australian designer Megan Salmon, for her DENIM DEFIANCE collection which drew inspiration from denim as a signifier of rebellion. She also received a Design Innovation Award.<\/p>\n Joyce Botero from Bentley won a one month internship with Zomp shoes for her collection MINIMAL MAXIMILIST, designs that investigate the balance between minimalism and maximalism. As part of the internship, Ms Botero will have the opportunity to work with staff on the Zomp\u2019s 2018 range. She also collected a Design Innovation Award.<\/p>\n Ms Kashaba, Ms Moseley and Ms Botero are also joined by Mount Lawley student Melanie Wozniak as recipients of the City of Joondalup Urban Couture Masterclass award and will be attending a masterclass and special session to be held in the City of Joondalup, with the Urban Couture International Ambassador in February 2018.<\/p>\n Ms Wozniak also received a Design Innovation Award for her collection WILD, alongside Port Kennedy\u2019s Melissa Goh who was also named as the winner of the Gerber Technology AccuMark Training Award for her collection SLEIGHT OF HAND.<\/p>\n The Sericin Silk Textile Award went to Kingsley resident Ella Bailey for her collection POWER CULTURE, which drew its inspiration from Indian culture, with the Expresslink Production Award presented to Isla Munro from South Yunderup for her work JUXTAPOSER.<\/p>\n Ms Munro also won a Design Innovation Award, while other recipients included Antoinette Raphael
