{"id":18887,"date":"2017-11-10T05:59:59","date_gmt":"2017-11-09T21:59:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-researchers-awarded-10-45-million-arc-funding\/"},"modified":"2024-09-24T11:26:22","modified_gmt":"2024-09-24T03:26:22","slug":"curtin-researchers-awarded-10-45-million-arc-funding","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-researchers-awarded-10-45-million-arc-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin researchers awarded $10.45 million in ARC funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University has today secured $10.45 million in funding from the Federal Government\u2019s Australian Research Council (ARC) to support important research activities.<\/p>\n<p>The ARC funding will make a significant contribution to Curtin University\u2019s commitment to high-impact research across a wide range of areas by supporting 26 research projects.<\/p>\n<p>The successful grant recipients include seven Discovery Early Career Research Awards (DECRA) valued at $2.5 million, one ARC Discovery Indigenous Award valued at $1.3 million and 18 ARC Discovery Projects totalling $6.6 million.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, Curtin University researchers are investigators on seven collaborative projects led by other universities, which received $4.2 million in ARC funding.\u00a0 These include four Linkage Infrastructure, Equipment and Facilities grants, totalling $2.8 million, two Discovery Projects valued at $0.7 million, and one Discovery Indigenous project valued at $0.7 million.<\/p>\n<p>The grants were announced by Federal Minister for Education and Training, Senator the Hon. Simon Birmingham, today.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry congratulated Curtin\u2019s successful ARC grant recipients, adding it would enable the University to continue to grow its research capabilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis funding builds on the quality of research already being undertaken by researchers at Curtin University and I am delighted that this important work has been supported by $10.45 million in funding from the ARC,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe projects supported by this funding aim to make a real difference to the lives of people through vital health, Aboriginal children\u2019s wellbeing, science, chemistry and engineering research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would also like to congratulate the Curtin University researchers involved in other successful research projects, which are being run as collaborations with other universities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Curtin University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Professor Chris Moran, said the range of research supported by ARC funding was a fantastic achievement for the University.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis ARC funding assures the ongoing underlying growth in research excellence at Curtin University, underpinning our strategy to balance researcher-driven and demand-driven outcomes and create a better tomorrow,\u201d Professor Moran said.<\/p>\n<p>The successful Curtin University recipients and projects in this round of ARC funding include:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ARC Discovery Indigenous Award<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Professor Cheryl Kickett-Tucker &#8211;<em> Cultural learnings: strengthening Aboriginal children&#8217;s wellbeing<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>ARC Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dr Rebecca Fuller &#8211;
