{"id":18870,"date":"2017-10-13T03:24:09","date_gmt":"2017-10-12T19:24:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-professor-head-new-international-science-journal\/"},"modified":"2017-10-13T03:24:09","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T19:24:09","slug":"curtin-professor-head-new-international-science-journal","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-professor-head-new-international-science-journal\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin Professor to head new international science journal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>John Curtin Distinguished Professor Peter Newman has been named founding Editor-in-Chief of the new <em>BMC<\/em> journal, <a href=\"https:\/\/protect-au.mimecast.com\/s\/1RkoBVunXd0rH9?domain=sustainableearth.biomedcentral.com\"><em>Sustainable Earth<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The journal, launched by the open access publisher BMC, which is part of <em>Springer Nature,<\/em> will address the big issues in sustainability with a focus on bringing science, policy and people together.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Newman, from Curtin University\u2019s Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP) said he was delighted by the appointment, which will see him expand on his role as a global influencer in environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe whole point of <em>Sustainable Earth<\/em> is to bring attention to what is happening around us to a mass audience in a way that is accessible, readable and relevant,\u201d Professor Newman said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe journal\u2019s subtitle is \u2018Science, Policy and Society\u2019 and this is very important to what we stand for and how we will operate.
