{"id":18761,"date":"2017-03-14T01:31:48","date_gmt":"2017-03-13T17:31:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-shenton-college-partner-learning-innovation\/"},"modified":"2022-12-06T09:19:43","modified_gmt":"2022-12-06T01:19:43","slug":"curtin-shenton-college-partner-learning-innovation","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-shenton-college-partner-learning-innovation\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin and Shenton College partner in learning innovation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University has partnered with Shenton College to develop school students\u2019 skills in innovation and entrepreneurship and build 21<sup>st<\/sup> century skills.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-39668\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG_2.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>Shenton College has joined Curtin\u2019s Innovative Schools Consortium, allowing students to participate in workshops, and game-based learning to develop new skills and attributes valued by universities and employers.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin will also provide support to Shenton College to enable staff to develop new curricula applying STEM approaches and transdisciplinary thinking to address real-world challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Professor Jill Downie said the partnership, cemented with the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreement, was a great opportunity for both institutions to work together on developing new ways of learning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin is delighted to partner with Shenton College and work with its students, teachers and senior staff to focus on innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship,\u201d Professor Downie said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to working with innovative schools across the State to develop high achieving students, and provide valuable pathways to university and employment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shenton College Principal Mr Christopher Hill said the school was thrilled to partner with Curtin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe opportunity for our students and staff to work collaboratively with Curtin staff is sure to deliver some outstanding outcomes,\u201d Mr Hill said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe there needs to be significantly better articulation between schools and the tertiary sector \u2013 and this new partnership will demonstrate what can be achieved. We are both outward looking institutions with strong inclinations to support innovation.
