Curtin Fashion will feature in Malaysia as part of the 2016 Mercedes Benz STYLO Asia Fashion Week events, showcasing works designed by current Curtin fashion student Sarah Mah and alumna Cordelia Gibbs.<\/p>\n
Together they will present a showcase entitled, SPECERE: To Look<\/em>, today, Friday 4 November.<\/p>\n Ms Cordelia Gibbs will present three menswear and three womenswear looks as part of a unisex leisure streetwear collection entitled \u2018past tense\u2019 under her label, COR.D by Cordelia Gibbs.<\/p>\n \u201cThe collection \u2018past tense\u2019 explores the use of garments as a medium to create a connection to place,\u201d Ms Gibbs said.<\/p>\n \u201cProvenance is important in my work; some of the textiles used involve natural dyeing with native Australian flora and rusted objects scavenged from my farm.<\/p>\n \u201cI also appreciate the importance of wool in Australia and work with a range of wool materials including wool suiting and wool fibre, which I felt by hand.\u201d<\/p>\n Ms Sarah Mah will showcase evening wear designs as part of her \u2018Iseki\u2019 collection, which uses silk satin, silk crepe and leather, from her label WAH MAH MAH.<\/p>\n \u201cFor this collection I was inspired by human anatomy as well as the sculptural aspects of origami, and how I could create my own forms to mimic and symbolise the bone structure of our bodies,\u201d Ms Mah said.<\/p>\n \u201cIseki translates to \u2018remains\u2019 from Japanese and draws from the influence of origami to explore the paradoxical nature of the human skeleton.<\/p>\n \u201cOrigami shapes are set against a backdrop of ethereal soft draped silk, rhythm and symmetry; where balance is found between different worlds.\u201d<\/p>\n Ms Gibbs and Ms Mah will also have the opportunity to showcase their work to industry personnel through a Curtin University booth at the FACIT@INTRADE national and international trade exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, from 2-5 November. Here they will be able to network with other suppliers, manufacturers, designers, boutiques and potential buyers.<\/p>\n
