{"id":18702,"date":"2016-10-27T02:02:45","date_gmt":"2016-10-26T18:02:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/disability-leaders-laos-unite-systemic-change\/"},"modified":"2016-10-27T02:02:45","modified_gmt":"2016-10-26T18:02:45","slug":"disability-leaders-laos-unite-systemic-change","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/disability-leaders-laos-unite-systemic-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Disability leaders from Laos unite for systemic change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University will play host to disability leaders from Lao People\u2019s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR) in November as part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade\u2019s Australia Awards Fellowship (AAF) program aimed at strengthening the capacity of developing countries.<\/p>\n<p>The AAF will be delivered as the Lao PDR Disability Leadership Participatory Action Research Project, and builds on an ongoing three-year Australian Aid funded initiative between Curtin and the Lao Disabled People\u2019s Association (LDPA) dedicated to improving access to social and economic services for people with disabilities in Lao PDR.<\/p>\n<p>During the four-week stay in Perth, the 15 visiting AAF Fellows will undertake activities aimed at fostering a collaborative approach to improving access to social and economic services for people with disabilities in Lao PDR.<\/p>\n<p>The Fellows include Lao Government Ministry representatives from the portfolios of Labour and Social Welfare;
