{"id":18679,"date":"2016-09-21T07:04:48","date_gmt":"2016-09-20T23:04:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-students-haul-scholarships\/"},"modified":"2016-09-21T07:04:48","modified_gmt":"2016-09-20T23:04:48","slug":"curtin-students-haul-scholarships","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-students-haul-scholarships\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin students haul in scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Three students from the WA School of Mines, Curtin University have been awarded prestigious West Australian Mining Club Scholarships. <\/p>\n<p>WA School of Mines students were successful in three of the five categories in which they were eligible. <\/p>\n<p>Third year Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) student Anis McGowan was presented with the Female Student in a Technical Discipline in the Mining Sector scholarship, while first year Bachelor of Engineering (Mining Engineering) student Elliot Puccinelli was granted the Engineering in the Mining Sector Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The Geology Scholarship was awarded to Bachelor of Science (Applied Geology) second year student Przemyslaw Jakub Cichosz. <\/p>\n<p>The students each won $10,000 plus mentorship as part of their prize.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Sam Spearing, Director of the WA School of Mines, congratulated the scholarship recipients and finalists.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is really pleasing to see that of 15 finalists, the WA School of Mines had nine and won three of them,\u201d Professor Spearing said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very proud of all of them and in fact, of all our students.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>WA Mining Club President Neil Watson said the calibre of the applicants was the best received to date.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe received almost 200 applications, the largest interest so far, and the quality of candidates was exceptional.  It was a very competitive year,\u201d Mr Watson said.<\/p>\n<p>Formed in 1972, the WA Mining Club contributes to the advancement of WA\u2019s mining industry through promoting and encouraging general and technical information as well as knowledge sharing.
