{"id":18634,"date":"2016-07-27T02:29:52","date_gmt":"2016-07-26T18:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/china-australia-writing-centre-publishes-short-story-collection\/"},"modified":"2016-07-27T02:29:52","modified_gmt":"2016-07-26T18:29:52","slug":"china-australia-writing-centre-publishes-short-story-collection","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/china-australia-writing-centre-publishes-short-story-collection\/","title":{"rendered":"China Australia Writing Centre publishes short story collection"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The work of several Curtin University staff has been featured in the China Australia Writing Centre\u2019s (CAWC) inaugural publication.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a special Australian edition of the prestigious Chinese journal Foreign Literature and Art, the publication features 15 short stories from Australian writers including Curtin\u2019s Dr Deborah Hunn, Dr David Whish-Wilson and Professor Kim Scott from the School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Scott, who wrote the introduction and helped select the stories, said he was proud to be involved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a great opportunity to look over recent (mostly) Australian short stories and to realise the outstanding quality and diversity of contemporary fiction,\u201d Professor Scott said.<\/p>\n<p>China Australia Writing Centre Director, Associate Professor Liz Byrski, said the Centre was delighted to be able to bring such a diverse collection of stories by some of Australia&#8217;s finest writers to Chinese readers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of the writers are already well known in China, while for others this is their Chinese debut,\u201d Dr Byrski said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope this will be the first of many publications which will showcase Australian writers there, as well as others which will introduce Chinese writers to Australian readers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are especially pleased to include images of, and information on, the Herbert Mayer Collection of Carrolup Artwork which forms part of the Curtin University Art Collection and is cared for by the John Curtin Gallery.
