Her Excellency the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AO, Governor of Western Australia, visited the WA School of Mines, Curtin University in Kalgoorlie yesterday, touring the newly renovated facilities on campus. <\/p>\n
Her Excellency was welcomed by Professor Sam Spearing, Acting Director, Curtin WA School of Mines, along with other Curtin University staff, students and a senior representative from the School\u2019s alumni.<\/p>\n
Professor Spearing said he was pleased to welcome the WA Governor to the Kalgoorlie campus and the visit was a great opportunity for Her Excellency to tour the recently built and refurbished facilities. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe were very honoured and excited to host Her Excellency at the Kalgoorlie-based Curtin WA School of Mines, and show her all of the positive ongoing campus developments which demonstrate our commitment to education in the region,\u201d Professor Spearing said. <\/p>\n
During her visit, the Governor toured the newly developed library, undergraduate metallurgical laboratories and computer labs and also visited the Agricola College student housing.<\/p>\n
Once completed, Agricola College will feature modern, comfortable rooms and provide homes to approximately 228 students.<\/p>\n
Curtin WA School of Mines Alumni Vice President and Managing Director of Saracen Mining, Mr Raleigh Finlayson, officially opened the remodelled student break room yesterday at the Kalgoorlie Campus, in the presence of Her Excellency.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new break room greatly enhances the students\u2019 area by providing a kitchen facility, lockable storage space, a large TV and seating where the students can relax in between lectures and study,\u201d Mr Finlayson said.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs a Curtin WA School of Mines alumnus, I\u2019m really pleased and proud to officially open such a wonderful new facility for students on campus.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Curtin WA School of Mines is located at both Curtin\u2019s Bentley Campus and in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, in Western Australia\u2019s Eastern Goldfields region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
