<\/strong>Curtin University and Fremantle Press are giving emerging writers the opportunity to pitch their ideas to publishers and writing professionals at a free event in Margaret River on Saturday 4 June.<\/p>\n

The Write Advice: Curtin Writing and Publishing Flash Mob, part of the Margaret River Readers and Writers Festival, gives local writers the opportunity to have a sample of their work assessed by an experienced writer, publisher or editor in a 20 minute feedback session.<\/p>\n

Reknowned author, Dr Liz Byrski from Curtin University\u2019s School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts, will be one of the assessors and said it was a chance for emerging writers to put forward their short stories, poetry, an extract from a novel, personal essays, feature articles, memoirs or other forms of creative non-fiction work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’re looking forward to hearing from writers who want honest, professional feedback on their work – its strengths, as well as its weaknesses and its publication potential,\u201d Dr Byrski said.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s an exciting prospect because as well as providing sound advice to people who are serious about their writing, we might also discover wonderful new talent and potentially award winning writing.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other professionals on the panel will include Fremantle Press publisher Georgia Richter, children and young people\u2019s author Deb Fitzpatrick and author and Curtin University lecturer Dr Rachel Robertson.<\/p>\n

Curtin has a history of supporting Western Australian talent and offers a range of creative and professional writing courses to aspiring writers.<\/p>\n

The panel is inviting all members of the public to submit works of no more than 5,000 words for feedback by April 25.<\/p>\n

During the first week of May, applicants will be contacted by email advising them of the time of their appointment on 4 June.<\/p>\n
