{"id":18555,"date":"2016-03-24T04:29:23","date_gmt":"2016-03-23T20:29:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-achieves-excellence-in-2016-qs-subject-ranking\/"},"modified":"2016-03-24T04:29:23","modified_gmt":"2016-03-23T20:29:23","slug":"curtin-achieves-excellence-in-2016-qs-subject-ranking","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-achieves-excellence-in-2016-qs-subject-ranking\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin achieves excellence in 2016 QS Subject Ranking"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University has again achieved outstanding results in the QS World University Rankings by Subject including a ranking of 19<sup>th<\/sup> in the world for Mineral and Mining Engineering, and 40<sup>th<\/sup> in the world for Earth and Marine Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Curtin was ranked in 18 subjects and ranked as a top 100 university in seven:<\/p>\n<p>* Mineral and Mining Engineering<\/p>\n<p>* Earth and Marine Sciences<\/p>\n<p>* Architecture\/ Built Environment<\/p>\n<p>* Nursing<\/p>\n<p>* Chemical Engineering<\/p>\n<p>* Art and Design<\/p>\n<p>* Education<\/p>\n<p>The University improved on its 2015 ranking in six subjects: Accounting and Finance, Business and Management Studies, Chemistry, Civil and Structural Engineering, Earth and Marine Sciences, and Geography and Area Studies.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin\u2019s Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the ranking results are a testament to the University\u2019s strong connections with industry, high quality research and wide range of innovative courses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe very strong rankings for Mineral and Mining Engineering and Earth and Marine Sciences were pleasing, as was the breadth of areas in which we are ranked as a top 100 university,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin continues to receive global recognition in the QS rankings ensuring students, staff and alumni can be proud to be involved with one of the leading education providers in the world,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n<p>QS provides a ranking of 42 subjects which are categorised in the five broad disciplines of arts and humanities, engineering and technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences, and social sciences and management.<\/p>\n<p>The rankings are compiled based on academic reputation, employer reputation, and citations indicators.
