{"id":18420,"date":"2015-06-11T01:12:14","date_gmt":"2015-06-10T17:12:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-fashion-student-named-finalist-in-2015-frankfurt-style-award\/"},"modified":"2015-06-11T01:12:14","modified_gmt":"2015-06-10T17:12:14","slug":"curtin-fashion-student-named-finalist-in-2015-frankfurt-style-award","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-fashion-student-named-finalist-in-2015-frankfurt-style-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin Fashion student named finalist in 2015 Frankfurt Style Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\">&#8212; Sheridan Joyce is the only representative from Australia &#8212;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Curtin University Fashion honours student Sheridan Joyce has recently been named as a finalist in the 2015 Frankfurt Style Award, the only representative from Australia in this year\u2019s fashion contest.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Her entry piece, entitled Alchemy, consists of a dress and jacket.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cI designed Alchemy as an initial part of my research into zero-waste design processes, a practice in sustainable fashion,\u201d Ms Joyce explained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cZero-waste design is essentially making an educated choice about how materials are used in the patterning process to eliminate the production of textile waste.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u201cAll of the pieces of the Alchemy interlock together, eliminating fabric waste\/off cuts that would normally end up in a landfill. I was influenced by researching designers such as Timo Rissanen and Holly McQuillan, who have engaged in their own investigations of zero-waste fashion design.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The Frankfurt Style Award is an international talent contest for fashion and design and is open to\u00a0fashion students worldwide.
