{"id":18418,"date":"2015-06-08T04:22:29","date_gmt":"2015-06-07T20:22:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/ao-awarded-to-curtin-vice-chancellor\/"},"modified":"2015-06-08T04:22:29","modified_gmt":"2015-06-07T20:22:29","slug":"ao-awarded-to-curtin-vice-chancellor","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/ao-awarded-to-curtin-vice-chancellor\/","title":{"rendered":"AO awarded to Curtin Vice-Chancellor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry has been recognised in the Queen\u2019s Birthday Honours List and made an Officer in the General Division (AO).<\/p>\n<p>Professor Terry had a distinguished academic career at the University of Queensland from 1990 to 2013, where she was an internationally recognised scholar and held a number of senior leadership roles, including Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and acting Vice-Chancellor.<\/p>\n<p>In February 2014, she took up the position of Vice-Chancellor at Curtin University, Western Australia\u2019s largest university.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin Chancellor Mr Colin Beckett said Professor Terry\u2019s award was richly deserved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is wonderful to see Professor Terry receive national recognition for her outstanding contribution to higher education, which recognises her highly regarded research and leadership in academia,\u201d Mr Beckett said.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Terry said she was humbled to receive the significant award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a huge honour to be recognised in this way for doing what I enjoy and what I regard as an absolute privilege \u2013 working in leadership roles in such a vibrant and important sector,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Terry\u2019s commitment to higher education also extends to a number of high level advisory roles and board positions.\u00a0 She is currently President of the Academy of Social Sciences Australia, and former Chair of the Australian Council of Learned Academies, the Australian Research Council&#8217;s College of Experts in the Social, Behavioural and Economic Sciences, and the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre.<\/p>\n<p>She is also a Fellow of both the Australian Psychological Society and the Academy of Social Sciences in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Terry is a graduate of Australian National University and has a PhD in Social Psychology.
