{"id":18409,"date":"2015-05-11T01:36:47","date_gmt":"2015-05-10T17:36:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/united-approach-to-build-next-generation-cities\/"},"modified":"2015-05-11T01:36:47","modified_gmt":"2015-05-10T17:36:47","slug":"united-approach-to-build-next-generation-cities","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/united-approach-to-build-next-generation-cities\/","title":{"rendered":"United approach to build \u2018Next Generation Cities\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University researchers will work with colleagues in China to lead a new urban sustainability initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin recently signed the Memorandum of Understanding, Development of Research Collaboration in the Field of Sustainable and Smart Cities of the Future \u2013 Next Generation Cities, with Chongqing University (CQU).<\/p>\n<p>In addition, a joint research laboratory in the field of new generation construction technologies has also been established.<\/p>\n<p>The collaboration will bring together cross-disciplinary expertise from the universities, focusing on five themes of sustainability, mega-projects, industrialisation, policy, and Building Information Modelling (BIM).<\/p>\n<p>Curtin Pro-Vice Chancellor, Faculty of Humanities, Professor Majella Franzmann signed the MoU in Chongqing with CQU Executive Vice President Professor Zhang Siping on 14 April.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Franzmann said Curtin was delighted to be collaborating with one of China\u2019s top universities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Australasian Joint Research Centre for Building Information Modelling, which was established and is directed by Professor Xiangyu Wang, is one of the leading centers in Australia,\u201d Professor Franzmann said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis collaboration will not only benefit both universities\u2019 research innovation, but also the wider community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor Zhang said the partnership will deliver benefits for CQU\u2019s research and would be a great contribution to the development of China\u2019s urbanisation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a key university in China, the collaboration with Curtin will contribute to the enhancement of scientific research, technical innovation and sustainable development of both universities,\u201d Professor Zhang said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt could be helpful to the transformation from a pattern of urbanisation to sustainable and smart cities in China.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two delegation teams from CQU will visit Curtin in June and July to further strengthen the relationship as well as fine-tune each collaboration program.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>United approach to build \u2018Next Generation Cities\u2019.
