{"id":18383,"date":"2015-03-13T02:55:44","date_gmt":"2015-03-12T18:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/hollywood-producer-shares-insights-curtins-festival-learning\/"},"modified":"2015-03-13T02:55:44","modified_gmt":"2015-03-12T18:55:44","slug":"hollywood-producer-shares-insights-curtins-festival-learning","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/hollywood-producer-shares-insights-curtins-festival-learning\/","title":{"rendered":"Hollywood producer shares insights during Curtin\u2019s Festival of Learning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leading Hollywood producer Frank Chindamo will share his insights into the role of internet video in higher education with Curtin University staff at its annual Festival of Learning which runs from 16-20 March.<\/p>\n<p>A pioneer in producing films for the web and mobile, Mr Chindamo will discuss the benefits and challenges of using video in higher education and how it enhances connections with a generation of students who live in the online space.<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jm2HJFJJWEQ[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education Professor Jill Downie said universities must move with the changing needs of students, including the adaptation of education delivery to enable learning both inside and outside the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith students living in a digital age, the future of learning must be a blend of traditional and digital techniques and needs to be flexible, personalised and constantly accessible to students,\u201d Professor Downie said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn some respects the future has already arrived at Curtin. We\u2019ve started to use a mix of traditional on-campus teaching, flipped classes, technology-enriched environments and distributed learning that actively engages students. We also to plan to launch a host of new Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in 2015.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The week-long Festival of Learning, Curtin\u2019s annual teaching and learning showcase, is part of the University\u2019s plan to engage one million learners across the globe by 2017. The festival invites special guests, Curtin staff and students to share their expertise and to get a glimpse into the future as Curtin progresses towards the vision of becoming a university recognised internationally as a leader in research and education.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Chris Rogers from Tufts University in Massachusetts will also present at the event, workshopping with educators and lecturers on how to use LEGO robotics in science and mathematics education.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Rogers works with school teachers worldwide to develop fun and engaging design challenges that demonstrate engineering and science principles to students.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/learningfortomorrow\/future_of_learning\/\">Learn more about Curtin\u2019s Festival of Learning <\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Notes to Editor<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>About Frank Chindamo:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A world pioneer in producing comedy films for the web and for mobile, Frank Chindamo was the first filmmaker to be commissioned to do web videos for Warnerbros.com in 2000. He has also created and produced masterclasses on web video with Avatar and Titanic producer Jon Landau and MOFILM. Mr Chindamo has been an Adjunct Professor at all four of Hollywood\u2019s elite film schools: University of Southern California, Chapman University, University of California, Los Angeles and Emerson\u00a0College. He created the study of web video and has co-authored the textbook on Internet Stardom.
