{"id":18367,"date":"2015-02-11T02:48:53","date_gmt":"2015-02-10T18:48:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/scholarships-encourage-equity-forum-discusses-way-forward\/"},"modified":"2015-02-11T02:48:53","modified_gmt":"2015-02-10T18:48:53","slug":"scholarships-encourage-equity-forum-discusses-way-forward","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/scholarships-encourage-equity-forum-discusses-way-forward\/","title":{"rendered":"Scholarships encourage equity: forum discusses way forward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) at Curtin University today conducted a forum to contribute to the national debate on the proposed scholarships available as part of the higher education reforms. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Held at the University of Canberra, the <\/span><i><span style=\"color: #000000\">Equity Scholarship Provision in Australian Universities: Insights and Directions <\/span><\/i><span style=\"color: #000000\">forum built on NCSEHE research examining current equity scholarship practice at Australian universities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Professor Sue Trinidad, NCSEHE Director, said need-based scholarships form an important part of a student-centred, whole-of-university approach to equity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u201cFinancial assistance supports students who may otherwise not have attended university, including students from low socio-economic backgrounds and those from regional and remote areas,\u201d said Professor Trinidad.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">The Australian Government has advised that the new scholarships scheme will be nationally administered, targeted and delivered.
