{"id":18323,"date":"2014-08-28T00:52:17","date_gmt":"2014-08-27T16:52:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-performance-students-attend-balinese-mask-workshop\/"},"modified":"2014-08-28T00:52:17","modified_gmt":"2014-08-27T16:52:17","slug":"curtin-performance-students-attend-balinese-mask-workshop","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-performance-students-attend-balinese-mask-workshop\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin performance students to attend Balinese mask workshop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Performance Studies students from Curtin\u2019s School of Media, Culture and Creative Arts have been selected to attend a Performance and Mask workshop in Bali under the guidance of renowned Danish mask teacher Per Brahe, and local dance teachers and mask makers.<\/p>\n<p>The ten second and third-year Curtin students who will participate will be accompanied by senior lecturer, Dr Leah Mercer, and Professional Associate, Mr Philip Miolin, who will also conduct training during the workshop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe workshop fuses traditional Balinese and Western performance processes,\u201d Dr Mercer said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPerformance techniques developed from the traditions of Balinese music, dance and mask work will be combined with Western acting techniques and devising training. The workshop will be presented by European, Balinese and Australian teachers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis combination of training will deepen the participants\u2019 creative practice as actors and theatre makers.
