{"id":18298,"date":"2014-07-21T07:36:26","date_gmt":"2014-07-20T23:36:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-tops-university-fundraising-efforts-worlds-greatest-shave\/"},"modified":"2014-07-21T07:36:26","modified_gmt":"2014-07-20T23:36:26","slug":"curtin-tops-university-fundraising-efforts-worlds-greatest-shave","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-tops-university-fundraising-efforts-worlds-greatest-shave\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin tops university fundraising efforts for World\u2019s Greatest Shave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University has been named the top university fundraising team for the Leukaemia Foundation\u2019s World\u2019s Greatest Shave.<\/p>\n<p>The fundraising event, which Curtin has supported since 2002, was held in March and raised a record $35,015.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Rogers, Director of Support Services at Curtin University said the fundraising effort was important to Curtin and one of the events Curtin Volunteers! would continue to support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin staff and students have raised more than $225,000 for the World\u2019s Greatest Shave in the past 12 years and that\u2019s something we are extremely proud of,\u201d Ms Rogers said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fundraising team were recently invited to tour the labs at QEII Medical Centre and we were encouraged to see that the events we hold on campus have a real impact on research into cancer treatment and prevention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Andrew York, General Manager of the Leukaemia Foundation of WA commended Curtin on its fundraising efforts and highlighted the importance of raising money for the Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ongoing support from Curtin University for the World\u2019s Greatest Shave has been fantastic. Over the years that Curtin has participated, they have continually generated more funds each year, with 2014 being their highest fundraising efforts,\u201d said Mr York.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe money will help the Leukaemia Foundation to continue to provide free support services for people affected by leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloma and related blood disorders and invest in vital blood cancer research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Curtin also fundraises for Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, Cancer Council WA and Parkerville Children and Youth Care and Curtin\u2019s total contribution to not-for-profit organisations since 1996 is more than $500,000.<\/p>\n<p>For further information on Curtin\u2019s fundraising events, contact <a href=\"http:\/\/life.curtin.edu.au\/leadership-and-community\/cv.htm\">Curtin Volunteers!<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University has been named the top university fundraising team for the Leukaemia Foundation\u2019s World\u2019s Greatest Shave.
