{"id":18275,"date":"2014-05-26T10:18:51","date_gmt":"2014-05-26T02:18:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-receives-highest-ranking-diversity\/"},"modified":"2014-05-26T10:18:51","modified_gmt":"2014-05-26T02:18:51","slug":"curtin-receives-highest-ranking-diversity","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-receives-highest-ranking-diversity\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin receives highest ranking for diversity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University has been named the Highest Ranking University for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) equality for the second year running at the national Pride in Diversity (PID) Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin was also ranked second in the top 20 employers for LGBTI employees.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin\u2019s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry, said this was a remarkable feat and she was extremely proud of Curtin\u2019s achievements in this area and of the staff who had worked tirelessly to ensure its success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would also like to extend warm congratulations to Sally Webster from Curtin\u2019s Ethics, Equity and Social Justice team who was named LGBTI Workplace Inclusion Champion,\u201d Vice-Chancellor Terry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSally has worked to promote and imbed LGBTI inclusion and support at Curtin. Her passion and commitment for engaging others in promoting social justice for LGBTI people has helped create Curtin\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/planning.curtin.edu.au\/local\/docs\/restricted\/Curtin_University_Diverse_Sexuality_and_Gender_Identity_Inclusion_Strategy.pdf\">Diverse Sexuality and Gender Identity Inclusion Strategy<\/a> and the Ally Program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oj8bq9O7qhU[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>Curtin\u2019s Ally Program was created to help staff, students and community members of diverse sexual and gender identity feel welcome and supported to work and study at the University.<\/p>\n<p>The University\u2019s Diverse Sexuality and Gender Identity Inclusion Strategy is aligned with best practice recognised by PID. It focuses on enhancing Curtin\u2019s inclusiveness of staff, students, and community who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great achievement for the University and for the LGBTI community it supports.
