{"id":18219,"date":"2013-12-16T04:28:43","date_gmt":"2013-12-15T20:28:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/paul-bloxham-appointed-curtin-business-school\/"},"modified":"2013-12-16T04:28:43","modified_gmt":"2013-12-15T20:28:43","slug":"paul-bloxham-appointed-curtin-business-school","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/paul-bloxham-appointed-curtin-business-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Paul Bloxham appointed to Curtin Business School"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University\u2019s Business School (CBS) has added to its financial market and policy-making expertise with the appointment of Paul Bloxham, Chief Economist (Australia and New Zealand) for global bank HSBC.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Bloxham will take on the position of Adjunct Professor and give a number of lectures to both students and academics at the University.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Helen Cabalu, Head of School, Economics and Finance, said the appointment supported the strong commitment of the School of Economics and Finance to actively engage with industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are always looking for new ways to work with key organisations in the economics and finance sectors and Paul\u2019s appointment will help the School develop beneficial partnerships,\u201d Dr Cabalu said.<\/p>\n<p>A Curtin Business School alum, Mr Bloxham said it was a great pleasure to be involved again with Curtin University, and was particularly looking forward to the lecturing role.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a macroeconomic adviser, my expertise comes from practicing out in the field \u2013 assessing the impact of local and global economic developments on Australia and New Zealand and translating that into commercial terms for HSBC\u2019s customers globally. In this role, he is chief spokesperson for HSBC on forecasts and trends for the Australian and New Zealand economies and their interaction with global financial markets and international economies.<\/p>\n<p>He spent almost 12 years as an economist at the Reserve Bank of Australia, where he held a range of different roles in the economics department, including heading up the overseas economies and financial conditions sections.<\/p>\n<p>Paul has published a number of papers, including on household finances, asset prices, monetary policy and global commodity price trends.<\/p>\n<p>Paul is a regular commentator on local and international business television, a frequent contributor of opinion editorials to Australian newspapers and a member of the Australian National University\u2019s shadow reserve bank board.
