{"id":18157,"date":"2013-08-22T06:49:59","date_gmt":"2013-08-21T22:49:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/photo-competition-winners-show-science-in-all-its-glory\/"},"modified":"2013-08-22T06:49:59","modified_gmt":"2013-08-21T22:49:59","slug":"photo-competition-winners-show-science-in-all-its-glory","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/photo-competition-winners-show-science-in-all-its-glory\/","title":{"rendered":"Photo competition winners show science in all its glory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A close-up, underwater view of jellyfish, a lone kitesurfer silhouetted on Cottesloe Beach and an early morning glimpse of station life captured the attention of judges, when the winners of Curtin University\u2019s National Science Week photography competition were announced this week.<\/p>\n<p>The panel of academic judges had their work cut out deciding on winners, with 532 entries across the four categories of \u201cearth\u201d, \u201cfire\u201d, \u201cwater\u201d and \u201cair\u201d and a fifth award for the best under-18 entrant.<\/p>\n<p>There was also a prize for the entry most voted for at Curtin\u2019s Science Week website.<\/p>\n<p>The eventual winners were:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Earth: \u201cStation Life\u201d by Harriet Swale \u2013 The earth that sustains our living, dawn till dusk.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Fire: \u201cGlowing Body\u201d by Carisse Antonas  \u2013  Hot glowing body of ignited gas. The fire made an interesting shape when it touched the cold air.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Water: \u201cBubble Jellyfish\u201d by Kate Greenfeld  \u2013  These are the bubbles of my buddy diver:) I love how the bubbles grow as they ascend to the surface.
