The winning photographs will be judged on their creativity and ability to uniquely interpret and capture the basic elements of air, earth, water and fire.<\/p>\n<p>The categories suit the diversity of participants:<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Best Wind Photo<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Best Water Photo<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Best Fire Photo<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Best Earth Photo<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0Student Award for entrants under the age of 18<br \/>\n\u2022\u00a0People\u2019s Choice Award<\/p>\n<p>Ms Gemma Mullaney, Curtin\u2019s Geoscience Outreach Officer, said this competition would increase awareness that science really was all around us.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether it is the cup of tea you are drinking, the oven you have just turned on, the ground you are walking on or the air you breathe \u2013 you are interacting with the elements that were the basis of science for some 2,000 years,\u201d Ms Mullaney said.<\/p>\n<p>Participants are invited to submit their entries online via <a href=\"http:\/\/scienceweek.curtin.edu.au\">Curtin&#8217;s Science Week website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Prizes will include five iPad Minis with 32GB wifi for the best student and element categories prizes, while a $100 voucher for Camera House will be awarded for the People\u2019s Choice Award.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of each category will be decided by a panel of academic judges.<\/p>\n<p>The Competition is currently open and will close Saturday, 3 August. Judging will occur mid-August with the winners being announced 19 August.<\/p>\n<p>Images may only be entered in a single category and no person may enter more than two images per category. All entrants must agree to the terms and conditions (available online) prior to submitting their entry.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Note to Editor:<\/strong> \u2013 National Science Week has been running for more than 12 years, National Science Week celebrates the contribution of Australian scientists to the world, encouraging interest in scientific pursuits and inspiring people to become fascinated by the world in which we live. National Science Week runs between 10 to 18 August and is designed to increase awareness and interest in science throughout Australia.
