{"id":18123,"date":"2013-06-18T06:26:51","date_gmt":"2013-06-17T22:26:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-university-endorses-national-research-policy-3\/"},"modified":"2013-06-18T06:26:51","modified_gmt":"2013-06-17T22:26:51","slug":"curtin-university-endorses-national-research-policy-3","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-university-endorses-national-research-policy-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin University endorses national research policy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin University today supported a move by Australian researchers to call on State and Federal Governments to back a strategic national research policy to build a stronger, smarter nation.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time Australian research bodies, representing hundreds of thousands of Australians, have come together to urge non-partisan support for science and all forms of research.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Colin Stirling, Acting Vice-Chancellor, said the strongest nations in our region were investing in their best resources \u2013 their minds \u2013 by driving skills, science and research at universities and Australia must do the same.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUniversities have the ability to transform our economy and it is important that the nation invests to help secure our future,\u201d Professor Stirling said.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Stirling said investing in research capacity and infrastructure would strengthen Curtin as a research-intensive university.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin supports a strategy to retain and develop fundamental national capacity in a highly competitive contemporary world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy building our research workforce, we are attracting and retaining scholars to undertake world-leading research in areas of global significance.
