It follows from her Terrain side table from 2010 that was acquired by the Art Gallery of Western Australia for the State’s permanent collection, and which also features in the exhibition in a new limited-edition series.

Ms Forlano was an artist-in-residence at FORM’s Midland Atelier studio where she developed her new works alongside state, national and international designer-makers in wood, furniture and 3D object design. She said that Midland Atelier was Western Australia’s first creativity and design innovation hub, and was helping to bridge the gap between fine art practice and viable manufacture and commercial reproduction.

“I make a conscious effort to focus my research and current works on projects that allow me to collaborate with the manufacturing and creative sectors to produce an innovative outcome,” said Ms Forlano.

“Local leading-edge manufacturer Composite Components knew the complexity of hand-producing the first Terrain prototype, so they were well suited to test a new fabrication process to create a limited edition series of the work, which I am very excited to launch at the exhibition.” She said she was also interested in strengthening the relationship between universities and industry.

Ms Forlano has been recognised for her creative approach to interior architecture, winning Curtin’s Creative Work of the Year Award in 2011 and has exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Milan International Furniture Fair, again with her collaborative work with Composite Components.

Learn more about “From the Atelier”, which runs from 14 June – 14 September 2013 visit:

For more information on Penelope Forlano’s work, visit her website.

Curtin University Interior Architecture Lecturer and Ph.D student, Penelope Forlano is exhibiting her latest work – The Unforgotten console – at independent Perth gallery, FORM.

[3
["post-18120","media-release","type-media-release","status-publish","hentry","category-campus-and-global-community
":null
"publishpress_future_workflow_manual_trigger":
["GET
