Tomorrow morning\u00a0economist Craig James will visit Curtin Business School (CBS) to launch a new club aimed at teaching students skills for the stock market.<\/p>\n
Utilising Curtin Business School\u2019s new Trading Room facility, the Wall Street Club will offer students a place to share an interest in investment and the markets.<\/p>\n
Mr James, CommSec\u2019s chief economist and recently appointed CBS Adjunct Professor, said the Wall Street Club would provide students with valuable insights into the world of stockbroking.<\/p>\n
“The stock market can prove challenging for novices and experts alike,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat’s why it is important to constantly stay on top of latest news and developments and continually develop your knowledge of the markets and how they operate.”<\/p>\n
Mr James will spend the morning with students discussing international economic outlooks and how shares compare to other investments such as property and cash.<\/p>\n
CBS Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tony Travaglione said the new Club would provide students with additional support to complement their classroom activities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Wall Street Club will allow students to learn tips, make connections and gain confidence in an environment that is not usually available until you start in the workplace,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Wall Street Club will run for the duration of the academic year and will\u00a0host activities including simulated trading competitions, networking functions and practical workshops.<\/p>\n
The CBS Trading Room facility features 16 Wall Street style Bloomberg Professional terminals.<\/p>\n
