Curtin University has appointed Professor Adrian North as its new Head of the School of Psychology and Speech Pathology, following an international search and rigorous selection process.<\/p>\n
Professor North comes to Curtin University from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, where he was Deputy Head of the School of Life Sciences, and Director of Psychology Education and Research, a role he has undertaken since 2007.<\/p>\n
Professor North graduated from the University of Manchester with a BA (Hons) Psychology and completed his PhD in music psychology in 1996 at the University of Leicester.<\/p>\n
He has published widely and co-authored three books. His research interests focus on the social and applied psychology of music, particularly music and deviant behaviour, music and consumer behaviour and musical preference in everyday life.<\/p>\n
Professor Jill Downie, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Health Sciences, said she welcomed Professor North\u2019s appointment.<\/p>\n
\u201cProfessor North has an outstanding teaching and research track record,\u201d Professor Downie said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe played a key role in launching a number of new degrees at Heriot-Watt University, which have been extremely popular.<\/p>\n
\u201cAdditionally Professor North has been innovative in creating unique learning experiences, which can be delivered anywhere in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cProfessor North is joining Curtin University at an exciting time with many significant capital projects underway and a proposal for Western Australia\u2019s next medical school.\u201d<\/p>\n
Professor North, who begins his five-year leadership role in March, said he was looking forward to the opportunity to develop teaching and research in fields that directly impact on everyday life.<\/p>\n
