{"id":17776,"date":"2011-07-05T01:32:15","date_gmt":"2011-07-04T17:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-volunteer-celebrates-30-years-in-local-radio\/"},"modified":"2011-07-05T01:32:15","modified_gmt":"2011-07-04T17:32:15","slug":"curtin-volunteer-celebrates-30-years-in-local-radio","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-volunteer-celebrates-30-years-in-local-radio\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin Volunteer celebrates 30 years in local radio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month one of Curtin FM\u2019s longest serving volunteers will celebrate 30 years of being on live radio.<\/p>\n<p>On-air presenter Alan Mannings began at Curtin FM on 3 July 1981.<\/p>\n<p>Today, he is the host of the Sunday Morning segment, From the Vault, a 4 hour radio program from 9am to 1pm that plays popular music and digs out rarities from the 50s through to the 80s.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Alan, 61, said he still recalled his introduction to radio and how his own initiative secured him a spot on the community station.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u201cBeing a huge Roxy Music fan, I went to see them at a media conference in Perth in 1981,\u201d Alan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile everyone was busy grabbing the attention of Bryan Ferry, I was more interested in interviewing Roxy Music guitarist Phil Manzanera.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs it turned out, Mark Cain from Curtin FM was there and he saw me do a one-on-one interview with Phil. We started talking, and soon enough the story was featured on Curtin FM as a one-hour radio special.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nDespite Alan\u2019s lucky introduction to radio, he said he credited his 30-year career to a passion for reporting the news and fostering relationships with the community.\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u201cOnce it gets in your blood, it gets in your blood, I suppose. It\u2019s just doing something that I love,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Curtin FM Director Quinn Glasson, who has known Alan for the past seven years, said he credits his longevity in community radio to his dedication to listeners and a passion for the music style he presents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople listening to him feel like they\u2019re listening to a friend and I think that\u2019s why he\u2019s had such a long career in radio.
