{"id":17691,"date":"2011-01-14T02:38:41","date_gmt":"2011-01-13T18:38:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtins-explosive-science-experience\/"},"modified":"2011-01-14T02:38:41","modified_gmt":"2011-01-13T18:38:41","slug":"curtins-explosive-science-experience","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtins-explosive-science-experience\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin\u2019s explosive Science Experience"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Students from more than 50 West Australian high schools will attend Curtin\u2019s Bentley campus next week for <em>The Science Experience<\/em>, a three-day summer school, designed to expose students to a diverse range of sciences.<\/p>\n<p>Participants will have the chance to join in hands-on science lab sessions and listen to talks from expert scientists, exploring fields such as biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, astronomy, palaeontology, spatial science, pharmacy, food science, biomedical science and computing.<\/p>\n<p>The Science Experience is also a great opportunity for students to connect with like-minded peers who enjoy science and experience a taste of what university is actually like.<\/p>\n<p>Highlights will include:<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister\u2019s Scientist of the Year, Dr Kate Trinajstic and Kate Doust MLA official event opening (Tues 18 Jan, 9am at Tim Winton Lecture Theatre)<\/p>\n<p>Model rocketry demonstration (Wed 19 Jan, 1.30pm at Edinburgh Oval)<\/p>\n<p>Science Extravaganza \u2013 a demonstration of the history of science through some rather explosive demonstrations! (Thurs 20 Jan, 3.30pm at Tim Winton Lecture Theatre)<\/p>\n<p>A number of chemistry labs will run throughout the three-day program and will provide excellent photo opportunities for media.
