{"id":17637,"date":"2010-09-24T07:44:49","date_gmt":"2010-09-23T23:44:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-goes-green-during-national-vegetarian-week\/"},"modified":"2010-09-24T07:44:49","modified_gmt":"2010-09-23T23:44:49","slug":"curtin-goes-green-during-national-vegetarian-week","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-goes-green-during-national-vegetarian-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin goes green during National Vegetarian Week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin\u2019s School of Public Health are showcasing the benefits of plant-based diets and encouraging Western Australians to live longer, younger and better by taking part in the 2010 National Vegetarian Week.<\/p>\n<p>The School of Public Health will be hosting a vegetarian seminar series, a number of simple cooking classes, and a vegetarian food and resource fair that will be open to the community during National Vegetarian Week from 27 September \u2013 3 October.<\/p>\n<p>Public Health staff want to put old wives\u2019 tales to rest and let people know how tasty a veggie diet can be.<\/p>\n<p>Various events throughout the week will spotlight the healthy benefits of following a vegetarian lifestyle.<\/p>\n<p>Community Liaison Officer Denise Griffiths said you don\u2019t need to be veggie to enjoy National Vegetarian Week, but you do need to love flavoursome food.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany people don\u2019t realise that veggie meals can burst with flavours, texture and taste from a Zesty Pesto Tofu Mediterranean Salad to a Redang Malaysian Curry,\u201d Ms Griffiths said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur cooking program will show you how to develop quick and cheap meals that can help with a busy study or social life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd our seminar series will cover everything from Hindu views on a vegetarian lifestyle through to nutritional benefits and practical thinking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now in its fourth year, National Vegetarian Week is a great opportunity to look at food and its impact on the environment, animals and health.
