Curtin University has made two significant appointments at its Curtin-Monash Accident Research Centre (C-MARC).<\/p>\n

Emeritus Professor Patrick Garnett, former Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Edith Cowan University (ECU), has been appointed as Chair of the C-MARC Board, and Dr Michael Lenn\u00e9, Senior Research Fellow from the Monash University Accident Research Centre (MUARC), has been appointed as Deputy Director.<\/p>\n

Professor Linda Kristjanson, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Development at Curtin welcomed the appointments.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurtin is fortunate to have Professor Garnett and Dr Lenn\u00e9 as part of the C-MARC team,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cProfessor Garnett has had a long and distinguished teaching and research career, and his wide professional experience will be a major asset to the Board in guiding the strategic direction of the Centre.<\/p>\n

\u201cDr Lenn\u00e9 has been involved in transport research for more than 15 years and is a leader in the study of human factors and safety related to motor accidents.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe will make a valuable contribution to the development of C-MARC\u2019s research and programs, and facilitate more efficient cooperation between MUARC, where he will be based, and Curtin.\u201d<\/p>\n

Professor Patrick Garnett retired as Deputy Vice-Chancellor at ECU in December 2007 following a distinguished career in chemistry and science education and extensive experience in university administration.<\/p>\n

Professor Garnett is a Fellow of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, a Companion of Engineers Australia and was awarded the Royal Australian Chemical Institute Chemical Education Division Medal in 2000.<\/p>\n

He has also served on numerous state and national committees and boards including the Combined Universities Centre for Rural Health, the Minerals Research Advisory Committee and the CRC for Broadband Telecommunications Networks.<\/p>\n

Since his retirement he has undertaken several higher education consultancies and is currently on the Board of the McCusker Alzheimer\u2019s Research Foundation.<\/p>\n

Dr Michael Lenn\u00e9 leads the Human Factors Team at MUARC and has a PhD in Experimental Psychology from Monash University.<\/p>\n

Dr Lenn\u00e9 has extensive experience conducting human factors and safety research in the road safety and military aviation and maritime environments.\u00a0 He has also has published over 30 international journal publications, over 50 conference publications, and over 100 technical reports.<\/p>\n

Many of his recent projects involve partnerships with industry, including automotive companies, aviation stakeholders, the rail industry, and the mining sector. He has helped these industries in the development of practical recommendations and guidelines that can be easily adopted.<\/p>\n

Professor Garnett commenced as Chair of the C-MARC Board on 17 May 2010 and Dr Lenn\u00e9 commenced as Deputy Director on 12 July 2010.<\/p>\n
