{"id":17597,"date":"2010-06-21T01:23:36","date_gmt":"2010-06-20T17:23:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-trains-teachers-for-better-science-education\/"},"modified":"2010-06-21T01:23:36","modified_gmt":"2010-06-20T17:23:36","slug":"curtin-trains-teachers-for-better-science-education","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-trains-teachers-for-better-science-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin trains teachers for better science education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After 30 years, physiotherapist Elizabeth Noordhoek\u2019s has returned to university to become a high school science teacher.<\/p>\n<p>This has been made possible by Curtin University of Technology\u2019s postgraduate diploma in science, which will allow the mother of three to change the direction of her career and make a positive impact on the lives of students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have seen what teachers can do for young people and would like to provide a strong learning experience for high school students,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs Noordhoek has enjoyed coming back to university and said the postgraduate diploma provided her with the knowledge she needed to teach science in the classroom.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe work we are doing provides a strong grounding in science that will allow us to properly teach students what they need to know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Much of her 30-year career as a physiotherapist has included working with children, including a number with autism.
