{"id":17564,"date":"2010-03-10T05:57:00","date_gmt":"2010-03-09T21:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/emerging-artist-secures-curtin-scholarship\/"},"modified":"2022-12-08T13:04:28","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T05:04:28","slug":"emerging-artist-secures-curtin-scholarship","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/emerging-artist-secures-curtin-scholarship\/","title":{"rendered":"Emerging artist secures Curtin scholarship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hayley Fletcher\u2019s passion for the arts has been rewarded with a prestigious Curtin University of Technology scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The Albany resident, who will study fine arts at Curtin, has been awarded the Hazel Hawke Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Fletcher said she was honoured to receive the scholarship and looked forward to becoming a professional artist.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have always been interested in art. I can remember when I was about four, I had been to playgroup and I had a huge drawing that I couldn\u2019t wait to show my mum. I was so proud of it &#8211; nothing has changed,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hope to push my work to a new level at Curtin by honing my concepts and practical art skills.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prior to enrolling at Curtin, Ms Fletcher studied visual art and craft at TAFE in Albany and has always been actively involved in the local art scene.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I have exhibited in many group art exhibitions and contributed to community projects,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am particularly passionate about raising awareness of issues related to family, youth and the environment and conveying this message through art.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I aim to finish my art degree and gain a teaching qualification so that I can travel Australia and other countries and share in the exchange of cultural ideas and experience through art.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The annual Hazel Hawke scholarship is for female mature age students who demonstrate a commitment to community and social issues.
