Curtin University of Technology Vice-Chancellor, Professor Jeanette Hacket, has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to international education.<\/p>\n
She was named the winner of the 2009 Excellence in Leadership in International Education Award at a special ceremony in Sydney yesterday. \u00a0<\/p>\n
Curtin Chancellor, Gordon Martin, congratulated Professor Hacket on winning such a prestigious national award.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis award recognises Professor Hacket as a leader in international education,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is an area that she is immensely passionate about and under her leadership Curtin has continued to forge new markets and international relationships.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor example, nearly a quarter of our student cohort is made up of international students plus we have a well-established campus in Malaysia, and last year Professor Hacket officially opened our Curtin Singapore campus.\u201d<\/p>\n
Professor Hacket said she was proud to receive the award and looked forward to furthering Curtin\u2019s long-standing commitment to international engagement.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am honoured to receive this award because I firmly believe in the enormous value of international education,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is not only one of Australia\u2019s leading export earners, it also provides invaluable cross-cultural experiences for all students, which helps to develop understanding that underpin tolerance and stability within our community.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Award was presented by the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA).<\/p>\n
Professor Hacket became Head of the International Student Services at Curtin in 1991 and Dean of International Programs five years later. In 2002 she was appointed Pro Vice-Chancellor International and Enterprise then Vice-Chancellor in 2006.<\/p>\n
