{"id":17314,"date":"2008-08-22T03:46:21","date_gmt":"2008-08-21T19:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/prelude-exhibition\/"},"modified":"2008-08-22T03:46:21","modified_gmt":"2008-08-21T19:46:21","slug":"prelude-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/prelude-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"Prelude Exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"title\">\n<div id=\"titledesc\">\n<p>C232\/08<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span>22 August 2008<\/span><\/div>\n<p>A free exhibition by Curtin University of Technology Fashion and Textile  Design graduates &#8211; a fringe activity to the 2008 Perth Fashion Festival Cultural  Program<\/p>\n<p>Daily from 11.00am-4.00pm<br \/>\nThursday 4 September to Sunday 7 September<\/p>\n<p>Gingers Garage (upstairs) 267 William St Northbridge<\/p>\n<p>Proudly supported by Curtin through the Office of Alumni Relations, by the  Department of Culture and the Arts through the Young People and the Arts funding  program, and the City of Perth<\/p>\n<p>The boundaries between art, fashion and photography will blur at the Prelude  Exhibition by Curtin University of Technology fashion and textile design  graduates that will run from Thursday 4 September to Sunday 7 September at  Gingers Garage in Northbridge.<\/p>\n<p>Exhibition Coordinator Jessica Judd said the free four-day Prelude Exhibition  will bring together works from six talented Curtin fashion and textile alumni  graduates and will be open from 11.00am to 4.00pm each day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Exhibition promises to be a prelude to the future careers of these  talented individuals that will undoubtedly take off as people see their fresh  and innovative works,\u201d Ms Judd said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are delighted that Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket will  open the event,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPrelude is a fringe activity to the 2008 Perth Fashion Festival Cultural  Program that will feature works by Elise Capelli, Amy Clarke, Emma Hunter, Tasha  Vener, Gabrielle Watts and Sophie Webber.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Exhibition will include delicate and feminine garments by Elise Capelli,  some of Amy Clarke\u2019s designs inspired by sustainable architecture, and  accessories and soft furnishings from Emma Hunter\u2019s eclare range. It will also  feature wearable art pieces by Tasha Vener, new materials by Gabrielle Watts and  couture based designs by Sophie Webber.<\/p>\n<p>Images captured by contemporary emerging photographer Patrick O\u2019Brien &#8211; who  documented the work created by the designers &#8211; will also be on show.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attention Editor\/COS<\/strong>:\u00a0You are welcome to ask for\u00a0high  resolution photographs of each graduates work as they are available on request.  The Exhibition is being held upstairs in Gingers Garage 267 William St  Northbridge from Thursday 4 September to Sunday 7 September.<\/p>\n<p>Prelude Exhibition alumni background<\/p>\n<p>Elise Capelli (Waterford): Ms Capelli graduated from Curtin in 2007 with a  Bachelor of Arts in Fashion and Textiles. Ms Capelli enjoys creating cloth and  garments that express delicacy, elegance and femininity and experimenting with  many different textile processes to achieve this effect.<\/p>\n<p>Amy Clarke (Subiaco): Ms Clarke graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion  and Textiles in 2007 and describes her design work as being concerned with the  connection between the built and natural environments.<br \/>\nMs Clarke\u2019s works have  been inspired by her interest into eco-design and sustainability &#8211; in particular  the layers and ventilation structures applied in sustainable architecture. Her  collections are made with materials that minimise the ethical and environmental  impacts at every stage and she finds the possibilities in fibre and fabric  research and technology, natural and man-made very exciting.<\/p>\n<p>Emma Hunter (Piesse Brook): Ms Hunter graduated with a Bachelor of Arts,  Fashion and Textile Design, 2007 and is currently developing her own label,  eclare. Ms Hunter\u2019s label encompasses clothing, accessories, stockings, and a  range of soft furnishings such as lamps and cushions. She works predominantly on  \u2018one off\u2019 designs, doing all the design work and manufacture herself by hand and  likes to create beautiful things.<\/p>\n<p>Tasha Vener (Bibra Lake): Ms Vener graduated with a Bachelor from Fashion and  Textile Design, 2006 and has always been interested in contemporary art and  textiles and how fabrics can be applied to the body and take on a whole new  form. Her garments are all handmade using unconventional methods and material  applications that form a collection of wearable art pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Gabrielle Watts (Watermans Bay): Ms Watts graduated with a Bachelor of Arts,  Fashion and Textile, Design, 2007. She has a passion for construction and pays a  high level of attention to detail and her work is\u00a0 focused on introducing new  materials and technology into wearable garments.<\/p>\n<p>Sophie Webber (Booragoon): Ms Webber graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in  Fashion and Textile Design 2007 and completed Honours in Design, 2008. She  enjoys working with natural fibres such as silk, cotton, leather and wool and  uses a variety of textile processes to manipulate and create forms for the body.
