Fascinating creations by three local Curtin University of Technology fashion and textile design graduates that blur the boundaries between art and fashion will be on show at the Prelude Exhibition from Thursday 4 September to Sunday 7 September in Northbridge.<\/p>\n

Exhibition Coordinator Jessica Judd said Elise Capelli, Tasha Vener and Sophie Webber are part of a cohort of six Curtin fashion and textile graduates exhibiting at Prelude that will be open daily from 11.00am to 4.00pm upstairs in Gingers Garage.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Exhibition promises to be a prelude to the future careers of these talented young individuals as well as a prelude to the latest in fashion,\u201d Ms Judd said.<\/p>\n

Prelude will be officially opened by Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket.<\/p>\n

Waterford resident Elise Capelli graduated from Curtin in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Fashion and Textiles and\u00a0 is very excited about showing off her work at Prelude.<\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoy creating cloth and garments that express delicacy, elegance and femininity and experimenting with many different textile processes to achieve this effect,\u201d Ms Capelli said.<\/p>\n

Tasha Vener of Bibra Lake graduated in 2006 from Fashion and Textile Design.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have always been interested in contemporary art and textiles and how fabrics can be applied to the body and take on a whole new form,\u201d Ms Vener said.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy garments are all handmade using unconventional methods and material applications that form a collection of wearable art pieces,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am looking forward to exhibiting at Prelude as it will be an opportunity for me to build up my knowledge and create a successful business.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sophie Webber of Booragoon graduated from Fashion and Textile Design in 2006 and then has completed Honours in Design.<\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoy working with natural fibres such as silk, cotton, leather and wool using a variety of textile processes to manipulate and create forms for the body,\u201d Ms Webber said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI work mainly with couture based design and have a passion for theatrical design and costume and see Prelude as a wonderful way of exhibiting some of my works.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prelude will also feature works by Amy Clarke, Emma Hunter and Gabrielle Watts, and images by contemporary emerging photographer Patrick O\u2019Brien who documented the work created by the designers.<\/p>\n

The free four-day Prelude Exhibition is a fringe activity to the 2008 Perth Fashion Festival Cultural Program. It is supported by Curtin through the Office of Alumni Relations, by the Department of Culture and the Arts through the Young People and the Arts funding program, and the City of Perth.<\/p>\n
